The people of Lake Sentani are renowned for their evocative figural sculptures, some of which appear on objects of daily use such as this food pounder. Here, the finial carved as a male figure with a stylized “mushroom” hairdo. The beauty of this pounder is enhanced by the thick cost of black patina from years of use. Ex. Anthony Meyer (France).
